Circles

ISO 400, ss 1/8, f3.5
I finally got around to the weekly 365 challenge of "circles." This theme was tough for me as I had the hardest time finding anything circular. One night, while lying on the couch, I looked up and noticed these votive candle holders hanging on the wall. The photo really wasn't that interesting until I boosted the contrast and played with the levels. Now, I kind of like it!

I've been tagged...

I've been tagged by Melissa

6 weird things about me:
1. I started dating my husband in 8th grade and we have stayed together ever since (okay, so a couple of junior high break ups but nothing serious.)
2. I can crack almost every bone in my body (neck, fingers, elbows, toes, back, knees, hip... you get the picture).
3. I ate a lighting bug for $.25 when I was little. I thought my tummy would glow :)
4. My best friends (besides my sisters) are the same best friends I had in 8th grade (hmmm... 8th grade was a good year for me!) and we still are just as close.
5. I had my car stolen last year while dropping my son off at daycare :(
6. I have a FISH tattoo

Beauty

Today the challenge was "beauty." Well, let me just start out by saying that there was no way I was going to step outside in the -20 degree weather to capture something that reflected "beauty!" And, when I read this challenge I already knew I had captured beauty so why risk the frost bite.
Everything about this image is beautiful to me. This is my older sister, Melissa and her beautiful daughter Stella. I have been so blessed with the most amazing family and I am so proud of each and every member. So, I am sharing what is beautiful to me... my sister and her love for Stella.

Awaiting

I had the opportunity to photograph this terrific couple today. They are expecting their first child in 6 weeks and it was an honor to be apart of their excitement. It's sessions like this that make photography so enjoyable. I get to do what I love while meeting and interacting with amazing people during the most terrific times of their lives!

My poor child is going to hate me when he grows up!
Forgot my ISO was at 1600... thank God for noiseware. (ss 1/2500, f3.2)

Cabin Sky

Okay... so today I am cheating. With the day being so crazy I wasn't able to get out and actually take any shots. So, I am posting a picture I took over Thanksgiving at my parents cabin. My husband was deep fat frying our turkey (obviously not the most healthy choice but it sure is good) and told me to come out and take pictures of the sunset. I'm so glad that he did. Last night, while going through some old images, I found this!!! I can't believe I forgot about taking these. I love the colors and trees. I'm very happy with the results of my first sunset image.

Red

ISO 200, ss1/160, f2.8
Today's focus was "red." This chair came out of my mom's garden and is absolutely my favorite prop. It's the perfect size for toddlers and I love the antique look. My mom has the best eye for stuff like this. Anyways, I thought it would look good against the white snow and would really stand out.

Beginning

On another board I am on this challenge was going around to capture "beginning." Well, I'm always up for a challenge. When I think of a beginning I invision doors because they always lead to something. If you look real close you can see me lying on the floor in the door knob... I'm such a geek!

Go Bears!

Well, today I didn't get the chance to take any creative or fun shots because my day was consumed with the Chicago Bears game. My husband is a huge fan so while he cheered on his team I worked on creating my website. Anyways, I snapped this shot in our kitchen right before Brandon went to bed. Nothing to exciting to post... just wanted to document my day.

Hats

Well, I missed a day of posting yesterday. We went out with some friends (thanks Ridders) and I was just to tired to post when we got home. However, I did snap these yesterday after going out and purchasing some hats for $1.97 a piece at the GAP. I couldn't believe the sales!!!

These were all taken against my off white colored walls so the background isn't very white. I just love his facial expressions and the hat colors. You maybe seeing more hat pictures tomorrow because I got so many cute shots!

Snow

Finally! The weather was bearable enough to go outside for 5 minutes to snap some snow pictures. I don't think I've taken any pictures of Brandon in the snow so this was my first attempt.

After about 3 minutes he was very cold so our session didn't last long. My goals was to simply experiment with exposure in the snow. I forgot my ISO was at 400 but I'm still pleased with these shots. He's such a cheese ball!

Waiting

This is my mommy goggles coming out on this image. Brandon was waiting for his daddy to come home from work so I grabbed my camera quick and snapped some pictures before he moved. My settings were all over the place and the background is completely blown but I love this anyway! Nothing is more cute than skeleton underwear and socks. I'm surprised he stood there as long as he did with the weather being so cold. After this shot he opened the door and started screaming, "Daddy!" into the neighborhood.

Monkey

This is one of Brandon's many friends named, "Monkey." I am having a creative block and find myself wishing it was warmer. It is just to cold to go outside! I having been trying to find more opportunites to photograph Brandon but by the time I get home from work the light is just to low for a moving toddler. Working with cooperative subjects is nice and Monkey did not argue at all during our photo shoot :) After reading everyone's blogs, I'm itching for a macro lens... I've seen some very awesome close-ups.

Cookies

Well, with it being a Monday and only 3 degrees outside I didn't have much motivation today. I did get out my camera and take some shots however, they just were not doing it for me. So, I'm posting some images I took over Christmas while Brandon and his grandma were making cookies. I thought these cookies were so cute and they are perfect for little ones to make. So full of color and easy!

Also, with the weather we are having a snowman image seemed appropriate.

Color

My goal today was to practice on color and sense it is snowing here I had no desire to step outside. The most colorful thing in my home is our bedspread that I absolutely love! This was a challenge because our bedroom does not get very good light. Luckily, the snow acted as a spectacular reflector.

Innocence

My in-laws are in town and we are planning on running errands today for my sister-in-laws wedding that is coming up in June. So, while I had some time this morning I snapped these of Brandon on the couch. Nothing special... I just really feel his innocence. I'm such a sucker for those beautiful brown eyes too!

Couldn't decide if I like it in color or black/white so I posted both. What do you all think?
ETA: the bw looks flat on here... hmmmm???

Boots

I didn't get around to taking my photo for today until around 5:30p which means there was absolutely no light available. While getting me camera ready I could not think of anything to photograph due to the low light conditions. I knew that whatever I shot, I would need to rest my camera on something for the low ss (shutter speed). Brandon's boots were lying on the floor so I set them on my kitchen table and shot away. It was interesting to practice with low ss's and exposure. This was the best shot of the bunch and because my kitchen walls are mustard colored the photo looked much better in b&w. My kitchen light reflecting off the boots is somewhat distracting but I guess it adds character.

Oh, and Brandon had a much better day today... 5 stickers!

Office Space

I had to take my camera to work today for an assignment and while waiting for people to show I decided to document my work space. Nothing special but I had a chance to practice with high ISO's. The lighting is dull but what do you expect... it's an office! Here are my favorites of items I have scattered around. I'll do anything to try and spice the cubicle.

Magnets for the file cabinet.

My coffee/tea mug I seem to utilize on an hourly basis... I absolutely love coffee!

Distracted

Today has been somewhat awful! Besides waking up with my cold in full force and my mind racing with my "to do list," Brandon gave Missy, our daycare provider (thank you Missy for all you do!), the kind of day no parent wants to pick her child up to. It took a lot of energy for me to pick up my camera after work but, like always, I'm glad I did.
To blow off some steam we headed to the park behind our house. Getting Brandon to cooperate was nearly impossible but I was able to capture this look that reminded me of exactly the type of day I was experiencing. He looks so distracted and as if his mind is somewhere else. I love the colors and his big brown eyes. Those eyes make bad days turn good in just moments.

Habits and Dreams

My first day was a bit challenging as I struggled figuring out what to photograph. Brandon was looking out the window in our spare bedroom so I started photographing him. Then, I turned and saw this cute shadow on the wall. It reminds me of childhood and all the dreams we had as children. Such innocense!
After taking Brandon's picture I was looking around wanting to photograph something "artistic." When I do anything with deep thought I unfortunetly have this horrible habit of twirling my hair... so highschool. Anyways, documenting this habit sounded interesting so here are the results. You may also have noticed my other bad habit... biting my finger nails.

My photo a day 2007 project

What's this... I'm blogging? Yes, it is true. I have been greatly influenced by so many other photographers out there to jump into the world of blogging. There seems to be no better time than the present and in order for me to reach my 2007 goals I need to practice, practice, practice with my camera. So, out in the photography world there is this project labeled the 365 photo a day challenge. The beauty of it... I can make it whatever I put into it! For me, I intend to document my life and use this forum to communicate with other photographers, family and friends. My goals in this project is to define my 'style,' learn from others and grow artistically. I love photography and want to put myself out there to improve in any way possible.

So, here it is... I intend to take one photograph each day with different goals in mind and journal about my thoughts and experience. Because blogging is new for me, this first image was taken awhile ago and serves as my test. Fasten your seatbelts... this may be a bumpy ride.
